Nationwide Opposes Member’s Attempt to Make it a Mutual Society (As Usual)

April 2025 -James Sherwin-Smith has failed in his attempt to gain sufficient numbers of nominations to stand as a candidate for the board of directors of this society.  However he is not easily put off and is determined to make another attempt at the 2026 AGM.

James decided to apply through the FCA to have access to the Register of Members of Building Societies in order to make contact with as many members as possible to encourage support.  But both the society and the FCA made things difficult for him by being very slow to respond.  So that he ran out of time to gain more support.

The FCA has now rejected his application following a private hearing at the FCA HQ, as requested by the society’s lawyers, rather than a public hearing.  However James has challenged this decision and continues his campaign to make the Nationwide a mutual society.  Your continued support for his campaign will be greatly appreciated.
