Nationwide Building Society Member Confirms Candidacy for AGM

April 2026 – Nationwide Building Society has confirmed that James Sherwin-Smith has obtained sufficient nominations to allow him to stand for election at the 2026 AGM in July. Members will be receiving notification of the AGM in mid June.  The society rejected 94 of the 350 nomination forms submitted and advised that just that 256 were valid.

James is hoping the society board will allow him to stand as an additional member nominated director rather than oppose him with  a contested election and the Quick Vote.  This follows James’ attempt last year when he failed to achieve the required number following a meeting at the FCA’s headquarters with the FCA and the society.  Both organisations wanted the meeting to be kept secret.  The purpose of the meeting was for James to apply for access to the societies register of members.  The FCA denied access.  See James’ website here for more detail.
