June 2026 – This is an appeal on behalf of James Sherwin-Smith (James4Nationwide.co.uk)
James is attempting a challenge the like of which no human being has attempted in over 20 years. It is a challenge far more difficult than the scaling of Everest. Far more difficult than the first attempt to break the 4-minute mile. Far more difficult than the first attempt to break the sound barrier. This is akin to attempting a day trip to Mars. This is not a joke this is serious.
James Sherwin-Smith is attempting the almost impossible task of seeking to raise the low standards of governance at the Nationwide Building Society. He is actually endeavouring to make the Board accountable to the Members just like a real mutual society. He is attempting to introduce the concepts of Fairness and Democracy and Openness and Transparency. He is doing this by seeking to join the Board of Directors of this Society.
This highly challenging feat will finish with the Nationwide AGM (15th July). The Directors believe that the sky will fall down and the world will end if James succeeds. James is not part of the old pal’s network. The barriers and hazards that James faces are beyond belief but the Board members are doing everything that they can think up to prevent him from joining them. He actually believes that Nationwide should be a real mutual society even though the directors prefer that it was a bank. He has the audacity to believe the voting system should be fair and democratic even when the directors do not. He even believes that a pay increase of 87% for the CEO is just a little bit excessive.
Emails and letters from Nationwide will soon be arriving in over 9 million Members’ inboxes and post boxes asking Members to vote against James.
Please give James your support by spreading this good news in whatever way you can as widely as you can to as many people as you can.
So please use your best endeavours to tell everyone on planet Earth not to bin Nationwide AGM email/mail inviting them to vote.
Tell them to –
- Use your vote FOR JAMES and AGAINST ALL of the board’s own candidates.
- DO NOT USE THE INFAMOUS “QUICK VOTE”.
