Bereavement Principles

April 2016 – Britain’s biggest banks and building societies have pledged to reform the way they treat bereaved customers.

Money Mail called on financial firms to drastically improve the way they treat grieving families – new guidance is launched today setting out how banks and building societies must help customers who are reporting a death.

Banks and building societies have also promised to trial a new service, allowing relatives to cancel loved ones’ accounts in a single step, early next year.

A new code of practice to offer greater help and support for bereaved families, the Bereavement Principles have been developed is aimed at cutting bureaucracy and providing an even more sensitive service.
